We were engaged by Trustpower in 2012 to rebrand the company and develop all their brand, retail and social communications.

Under our 10 year tenure Trustpower went from a provincial power provider to one of the most recognised power and broadband retailers in New Zealand. During this time customer connections grew to 416,000. In 2022 the Trustpower retail brand was bought out and merged into Mercury Energy.

In 2018 Trustpower won the TVNZ Long Term Marketing Excellence Award.

The ‘Three Legged Dog’ TV commercial has become one of New Zealand’s favourites. Polling by TRA Research ranked the ad as the country’s most liked commercial for 2022. It still held the number one place as of May 2023.

Another audience favourite; this is the commercial that kicked off idea of ‘Meant to be together’ in 2015, and remained at the core of Trustpower’s positioning.

A bittersweet story of love lost, then rekindled many years later. Ranked as the fifth most popular ad in NZ for 2021 by TRA Research.

We took over the MetService page for a few days to offer free appliances to new customers.

Every year we made a new range of Winter Energy Saving animations for various social media platforms.

Toni the Trustpower chatbot was animated to present technical ‘how-to’ videos to help alleviate pressure on the Customer Care helpline.

Rather than rely on the predictability of stock imagery, we commissioned photographer John McDermott to shoot a large suite of images that could be used across collateral and website situations. It’s testament to the quality and engagement of these images that they have not needed to be updated in nine years.

The brand TV commercial ‘Puppies’ was supported by a wide range of customer acquisition social media posts and YouTube pre-rolls featuring the star puppies with appropriate animation. (Offer text not included in these examples)

A long impressionistic commercial designed to stand out from harshness and mayhem of the commercial break and inject a bit of ‘grown-up-ness’ to the brand.

In addition to the series of Trustpower brand commercials, we’ve developed many successful retail campaigns, with extensive use of television, social and outdoor.

Not your normal ‘explainer video’. Oscar Kightley, our long time voice-over and presenter, delivers an amusing overview of the company. This three-minute film demonstrates what we call the three ‘itys’ of engaging corporate comms: clarity, brevity, levity.
